“We’ve been living in Lebanon for three years, we are suffering a lot. I’m a widow with 6 children and we have no one to support us. I can barely provide them with basic food items from the aid I get from organizations. We suffer over the year but in winter our suffering is harder because we live under a plastic sheet having no walls to protect us. Bekaa is very cold area; temperatures here in winter drop under freezing levels and my children always get sick because we lack heating facilities.” Um Hassan said.
Each year Islamic Relief implements winterization projects to provide Syrian refugees with winter packs to keep them warm during the harsh conditions in winter. This year Islamic Relief Australia funded a project in Bekaa area to provide Syrian refugees with food parcels, fuel, blankets, mattresses, carpets and pillows.
“For the past three years we used to borrow money to buy winterization items and clothes to my children to stay warm and I still have many debts to settle. I was worried this year how to insure purchasing winterization items. But Alhamdulilah, Islamic Relief team came to our camp today and provided all the families with winter packs. This has eliminated the struggles of freezing all night and borrowing more money”. Um Hassan added.
