|Project Name:||Providing winterization items for refugees from Syria in Lebanon LB020_000037|
|Project Duration\Date:||15-12-2015 till 15-6-2016|
Increase the ability, of the targeted refugee from Syria, to cope with current severe conditions in shelters especially in harsh winter time
Five years into the Syrian conflict and over 1.1 Syrians have officially sought refuge in neighbouring Lebanon. Lebanon's hospitality is being stretched to the limit. Syrian refugees have self-settled all over Lebanon, but mainly in the North and the Bekaa valley. In the absence of formal refugee camps in Lebanon, refugees seek shelter in crowded apartments, unfinished buildings, garages, and wherever space is available. In addition, thousands of Syrian refugee families are living in informal tented settlements in terrible conditions.
Winter in Lebanon can be very harsh, especially for displaced families who are living in unheated and makeshift shelters in high-altitude areas. Temperatures drop below freezing in many parts of the country bringing further misery and suffering to the refugees living there.
During the winter of 2015/16, IR Lebanon will provide winterisation items for refugees and vulnerable families located in camps and random shelters throughout Lebanon as an emergency response to the harsh winter conditions. The programme aims to reach 1,070 families (around 5,350 individuals).
